Economy Corner Week 17

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Points Earned/Price $ Paid). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that.

It is a DGW for 8 teams this week (COL, DC, LA, ORL, POR, SEA, ATL, MINN), Montreal and Toronto have Leg 1 of Canadian Championship and their MLS games, and Confederations Cup continues. Rosters are due Wednesday.

Value Play Examples (Points/Cost $) from Week 16 (Week 16 prices)

Goalkeeper: Getting 8 pts from Bono TOR for only $5 compared to paying $6 for Rimando RSL who scored 8 pts too.

Defender: Getting 10 pts from Zavaleta TOR for only $5.0 compared to paying $7 for Besler SKC who scored 10 pts; you get the same score for $2 cheaper.

Midfielder: Getting 10 pts from Roldan SEA for only $7.4 compared to paying $10.7 for Valeri POR who scored 5 pts.

Forward: Getting 7 pts from Badji COL for only $6.4 compared to paying $10.5 for O. Kamara CLB who scored 6 pts.

Recap of Week 16 Suggestions

Big Win: Not the best week for Economy Corner. Only two suggested players scored over 4 pts: Bono TOR and Almiron ATL who both scored 8 points.

Swing and a Miss: I missed on both forwards last week. Picault earned 4 points in a 0-2 loss and Wondo scored 1 point in a 0-0 draw. Even worse is that for Midfield I suggested Rusnak RSL who did not play, but I’m counting that as more of a Push as 7 different Real players scored over 5 pts in their 1-0 win.

The Push: Last weeks defenders were average. While Cole LA, Callens NYC or Fabinho PHI didn’t scored over 4 pts, none of them had a negative price change.

Biggest Regret: Not suggesting Roldan SEA. I’ve been noticing his weekly scores, but didn’t suggest him last week as Seattle was on the road against New York City.

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Bingham, Besler, Lodeiro or Villa; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Bingham, Besler, Lodeiro and Villa all into you starting XI.

Week 17 Value Suggestions

It is a DGW for 8 teams this week (COL, DC, LA, ORL, POR, SEA, ATL, MINN), Montreal and Toronto have Leg 1 of Canadian Championship and their MLS games, and Confederations Cup continues. Rosters are due Wednesday.

Goalkeepers: Cropper is starting the week owned by 0.8% more teams than Melia. Cropper is at 23.1% and Melia is at 22.3%.

Lampson CHI SGW $4.7 – I’m considering the schedule and I don’t see many DGW goalkeepers I would choose over Lampson and Fire at home against Orlando. It will Orlando’s second of two games on the road this week, and Chicago is on a 8 game undefeated streak that includes 4 CS.

Hamid DC DGW $5.7 – I know Hamid is currently $0.1 more than Melia, but do you think Melia and Co. keep a second away clean sheet in a row against Alessandrini? DC is playing at home against Atlanta (they scored 3 goals in their last 4 away games) and away against Philadelphia (who scored 1 goal in their last 3 games). You still think I’m joking don’t you. Consider Hamid has 33 points from the last 5 games including 2 CS. He scored 13 points in DC’s last DGW.

Defenders: Medranda is currently at 28% and Opara is at 20%.

Lima SJ SGW $4.5 – San Jose is hosting Real Salt Lake. It will be Earthquake’s second game at home in a row. Real scored in their two previous away games, but they were shutout in the three away games before that.

Jones SEA DGW $5.2 – Seattle’s first game is at home against Orlando. Did you know in Seattle’s last three home games they have a total of 3 clean sheets? Now you do.

Thiesson MIN DGW $5.0 – Minnesota has two home games this week. Of the Loons 7 home games played, they recorded a CS in 3 of them. Don’t be surprised if they get a 4th home clean sheet this week.

Midfield: Valeri is currently at 34%; Almiron, Alessandrini and Gressel are all above 20%, but I think Gressel will drop some; Godoy is at 17%.

Roldan SEA DGW $7.5 – If Roldan hasn’t been on your radar, you need to start paying him some attention. Seattle is at home against Orlando, and then play the Timbers in Portland. Roldan has a total score of 92, the crazy thing is that 41 of those points are from Seattle’s last 5 games. In comparison Lodeiro only scored 25 points in those 5 games. Jump on the band wagon. He played a full 180 mins during Sounders’ last DGW.

Dzemaili MTL SGW $8.8 – Dzemaili has only played in 3 MLS games this season. In those three games he has 2 goals, 2 assists, and 28 total points.

Trapp CLB SGW $7.2 – Meram and Higuain are really the better options, but if you want to save $3 Trapp will suffice. He has 29 points from Columbus last five games. With Montreal playing in the Canadian Championship, I doubt this game is their first concern.

Forwards: Villa is currently at 34%. Adi and Giovinco are at 25% and 21%. For some reason Nikolic is only at 16%

Ramirez MIN DGW $7.9 – The last two weeks weren’t good for Ramirez as he scored a total of 4 points from those games. I doubt that trend will continue this week as Minnesota has two home games. Ramirez is Minnesota top goal scorer with 8 goals. If you’d prefer to save money in the midfield, take a look at Ibson $6.7 who has 33 points in the Loons last five games.

Torres HOU SGW $8.6 – Torres has not scored less than 6 pts when Houston is at home. Houston is at home this week.

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 17.

Constructive feedback is appreciated.

Economy Corner Week 16

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Points Earned/Price $ Paid). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that.

We finally have a game week with every team playing and no DGW, except that 19 MLS teams played in the US Open Cup Tuesday and Wednesday, there were World Cup Qualifiers and International friendlies Tuesday & Wednesday, and Confederations Cup starts Saturday. Rosters are due Saturday.

Value Play Examples (Points/Cost $) from Week 15 (Week 15 prices)

Goalkeeper: Getting 8 pts from Lampson CHI for only $4.6 compared to paying $5.6 for Melia SKC who scored 5 pts.

Defender: Getting 8 pts from Valentin POR for only $4.7 compared to paying $6 for Opara SKC who scored 6 pts.

Midfielder: Getting 8 pts from Fernandes SKC for only $8.2 compared to paying $10.6 for Piatti MTL who scored 3 pts.

Forward: Getting 13 pts from Adi for only $9.6 compared to paying $9.9 for Villalba who scored 3 pts.

Recap of Week 15 Suggestions

Big Win: Economy Corner had a fantastic week, almost every suggestion was spot on. Lampson tied with Gleeson for highest scoring goalkeeper as both Portland Chicago earned clean sheets. Fernandes tied for 2nd highest scoring midfielder. I think most impressive was what I said about forwards last week:

Not sure why you would choose a forward not named Adi, Nikolic or Accam this week. If you are looking to cut cost at the Forward position this week, Solignac is probably the cheapest forward with opportunity to score this week.

Solignac was the 4th highest forward behind Adi, Accam, and Nikolic for Week 15.

Swing and a Miss: Suggesting Vytas was the closest thing to a miss, with a yellow card he was only the 8th highest scoring defender for the week. If you remember I told you not to fear Dallas; two of Portland’s other defenders tied for 2nd, and the forth defender placed 5th for the week. A bigger miss was suggesting in the Reddit comments last week to /u/Gwit_TO to pick Chara over Blanco and Asprilla, sorry.

The Push: I flat out said I didn’t like the away teams for last week, but suggested Gressel anyways as a bench option. He didn’t let me down as he scored 4 pts, the highest scoring Atlanta player for the week.

Biggest Regret: Once again I don’t follow my own advice and picked Feilhaber instead of Fernandes for my fantasy team.

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Bingham, Besler, Lodeiro or Villa; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Bingham, Besler, Lodeiro and Villa all into you starting XI.

Week 15 Value Suggestions

We finally have a game week with every team playing and no DGW, except that 19 MLS teams played in the US Open Cup Tuesday and Wednesday, there were World Cup Qualifiers and International friendlies Tuesday & Wednesday, and Confederations Cup starts Saturday. Rosters are due Saturday.

Goalkeepers: Melia is currently selected by 29% of teams, and Cropper by 22%. Only two other Goalkeepers are over 10%

Bendik ORL $5.1 – As the 2nd highest scoring goalkeeper at home against Montreal, Bendik should have a higher selection rate. Bendik and Co earned CS in their last two home games, one of which was against Chicago.

Bono TOR $5.0 – Toronto is facing DC United this week at home. In United’s last 5 games they scored 1 goal.

Defenders: Medranda is currently at 34% and Opara is at 25%, no other Defender is above 15%.

Fabinho PHI $5 – All Philadelphia defenders are under $5. In their last 7 games they have 4 CS and only New York City scored more than 1 goal against them. Union face NY Red Bulls at home this week. When the two teams played on May 6th, Philadelphia won 1-0.

Callens NYC $4.9 – New York City is home against Seattle. Seattle only has 1 goal in their last 3 away games. Callens has 26 pts in last 5 games including a goal.

Cole LA $5.5 – It has been a long time since I suggested someone from LA. If you haven’t noticed Galaxy are on a 6 game undefeated streak, 4 of those games were on the road. Galaxy is hosting Houston. Houston has 1 goal in their last 6 away games.

Midfield: Valeri is currently at 34%, Gressel and Almiron are at 22% & 21%.

Fagundez NE $7.8 – In their last 5 games New England has scored 12 goals, Fagundez tallied 5 of them and assisted 1 of them.

Almiron ATL $9.6 – Atlanta is welcoming to Georgia a Columbus team that has lost 4 of their last 5 away games. Almiron scored 32 points in Atlanta’s last two games combined.

Rusnak RSL $9.2 – Can you believe that Rusnak has scored 31 points in Salt Lakes last five games? They are at home this week against Minnesota. The Loons have allowed 15 goals in their last five away games.

Forwards: Villa is currently at 31%. Adi and Nikolic are at 24% and 22%.

Picault PHI $7.0 – Sapong is the more popular forward, but Picault has recently been just as effecient scoring 3 goals with a total fantasy score of 28 points in Philadelphia’s last five games.

Wondolowski SKC $8.7 – Oh No! San Jose is playing Sporting Kansas City! Don’t you fret, here are some juicy secrets. Wondo has scored or assisted in each of the Earthquakes last 5 home games (5 goals, 2 assists). SKC has been scored on in each of their last five away games.

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 16.

Constructive feedback is appreciated.

Economy Corner Week 15

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Points Earned/Price $ Paid). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that.

Only 6 teams playing: CHI vs ATL, SKC vs MTL, and POR vs DAL. International Call Ups. Rosters due Saturday.
I’m attending the USA vs T&T match Thursday, would be fun meeting fellow redditors.

Value Play Examples (Points/Cost $) from Week 14 (Week 14 prices)

Goalkeeper: Getting 18 pts from Bendik ORL DGW for only $4.9 compared to paying $5.6 for Johnson NYC who scored 8 pts.

Defender: Getting 16 pts from Callens NYC DGW for only $4.7 compared to paying $6.4 for Chanot NYC DGW who scored 15 pts.

Midfielder: Getting 17 pts from Lamah DAL SGW for only $7.6  compared to paying $10 for Alessandrini LA SGW who scored 9pts.

Forward: Getting 12 pts from Urruti DAL SGW for only $9 compared to paying $10.1 for Wright-Philips NY SGW who scored 3 pts.

Recap of Week 14 Suggestions

Big Win: For me personally the Big Win is getting tickets for the USA vs T&T World Cup Qualifying game. I would enjoy meeting up with my fellow Redditors. I also had the best week in fantasy so far.

For Economy Corner the Big Win is Goalkeepers. I had suggested Bendik, Steffen and Cropper. Bendik and Steffen placed 1st and 2nd highest scoring goalkeepers for the week. In comparison 9 points from Cropper seems like a disappointment, but Cropper only played one of New England’s two games. I did call the CS against TOR, so I am marking that as a win. Shout out to /u/Gwit_TO

Swing and a Miss: Defense suggestions were terrible last week, even with suggesting Callens NYC who scored 16 pts, the -1 pt by Wingert RSL is just unacceptable. I am sorry for suggesting such nonsense. On the flip side, if you had played forward Plata you might be singing a different tune for RSL. Thiesson MIN scored 4 pts even during a 0-3 loss.

The Push: Both Midfield and Forward suggestion go here. Trap CLB and Torres HOU produced big for us, Torres was tied for highest scoring forward for the week. Harrison NYC played 158 mins, had a goal and scored 9 points during the DGW, yet his value dropped by $0.1

For a SGW Gressel ATL scored a decent 5 pts in a 1-3 loss. Jackson-Hamel MTL only scored 2 pts while six of his teammates scored over 8 pts in their SGW.

Biggest Regret: Captaining Villa instead of Nguyen, Meram, Medranda or Callens.

Only 6 teams playing: CHI vs ATL, SKC vs MTL, and POR vs DAL. International Call Ups. Rosters due Saturday.

With only 6 Teams Playing I am only suggesting 5 players this week.
Goalkeepers:
Cropper and Melia start the week selected by 24% of teams. I honestly think all three home teams have opportunities for CS. So pick a goalkeeper.

Lampson CHI $4.6 – Lampson has started the last 6 weeks for Fire and has 3 CS. Over Chicago’s last five home games they conceded only 2 goals earning 3 clean sheets. Lampson is a whole $ cheaper than Melia and is a big reason he is suggested here. If you don’t need to save the $, then go with Melia.

Defenders: Medranda is currently at 28%. Jones and Opara are the only other defenders above 18%.

Vytas POR $4.7 – The entire Portland defense is under $5. Don’t be afraid of their match against Dallas. During the four games before the 6-2 stomping of RSL, Dallas had only scored 2 goals. Don’t choose Farfan or Powell, neither have played in recent weeks. This is Portland’s first back-to-back home games since April 15th and 22nd.

Midfield: Godoy has dropped below 20%. Only Valeri is above 20%, and I expect he’ll continue to climb through the week.

Fernandes SKC $8.2 – Kansas City is on a 5 home game win streak scoring 14 goals in those five home games. Fernandes has fives goals for the season, but three came in a hat trick, so he’s only scored in 3 games. He did get 7 pts this last week against Minnesota without tallying a goal or assist.

Gressel ATL $4.4 – I’m not hiding it, I don’t like any of the away teams this week. However, I think it’s good to acknowledge the hot streak Gressel is on. He has 2 goals, 3 assists, and 30 pts in Atlanta’s last four games. Plus he is cheap, throw him on your bench just in case.

Forwards: Villa is starting the week at 37%, and should drop. Larin is currently at 20%. Adi is at 19%, expect his selection to increase.

Solignac CHI $6.0 – Not sure why you would choose a forward not named Adi, Nikolic or Accam this week. If you are looking to cut cost at the Forward position this week, Solignac is probably the cheapest forward with opportunity to score this week.

That’s V value plays for you to consider for Week 15.

Constructive feedback is appreciated.

Economy Corner Week 14

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Price Paid/Points Earned). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that.

Eight Teams have DGW. Canadians have Canada Cup play tonight and Wednesday. International Call Ups. Rosters due Wednesday.

Value Play Examples from Week 13 (Week 13 prices)

Goalkeeper: Paying $4.9 for Deric HOU or Bono TOR, both scored 9 pts compared to paying $6 for Frei SEA who scored 9 pts.

Defender: Paying $4 for Wingert RSL who scored 9 pts compared to paying $6.8 for Besler SKC who scored 5 pts.

Midfielder: Paying $4.3 for Gressel ATL (which I did but had him on my bench…) who scored 10pts compared to paying $10.4 for Valeri POR (which I also did, but had him starting…) who scored 2 pts

Forward: Paying $8.6 for Wondo SJ who scored 7 pts compared to paying $10.4 for O Kamara who scored 2 pts.

Recap of Week 13 Suggestions

Big Win: The highest scoring players suggested last week were goalkeeper Gonzalez DAL and forward Accam CHI. Both players scored 8 pts. Icing on the cake for everyone that chose Accam is that he scored a point more than teammate Nikolic. Forward Wondo was a good suggestion as he scored 7 pts in San Jose’s 4-2 loss.

Swing and a Miss: Defense. Both Parker VAN and Fabinho PHI only scored 2 pts. Long and Lawrence did score 4 and 6 pts in New York’s 2-1 win.

The Push: Midfield did better than Defense suggestions, but still was lacking. Svensson SEA scored 6, Guzman POR scored 4, and Acosta DAL scored 3.

Biggest Regret:  My actual fantasy team. First week all year I scored below the average…

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Bingham, Besler, Lodeiro or Villa; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Bingham, Besler, Lodeiro and Villa all into you starting XI.

Week 14 Value Suggestions

Eight Teams have DGW. Canadians have Canada Cup play tonight and Wednesday. International Call Ups. Rosters due Wednesday.

Goalkeepers: Cropper starts the week selected by 27% of teams, Melia is at 22%. I like Johnson with NYC, but the next two players are cheaper, under $5! I would suggest Gonzalez again this week vs RSL, but Dallas will be missing Hedges to team USA.

Bendik ORL DGW $4.9 – Orlando has allowed 11 goals in their last 5 games. I admit doesn’t sound appetizing. However both of their games this week are at home!! Bendik is tied for 5th highest scoring goalkeeper, he could get a clean sheet.

Steffen CLB DGW $4.6 – Steffen is the 6th highest scoring goalkeeper. Crew is home against Seattle and away against Colorado. Seattle game is juicy because it’s a home game and Seattle will be without Dempsey & Morris #USMNT. I think both games are opportunities for CS and I will be considering Columbus defenders in addition to Steffen on my team.

Cropper NE DGW $4 – I know Cropper has a high ownership, but I doubt all of you are considering to start him. I like the Revolution for a potential CS in their second game, a home game vs Toronto. Toronto will have played in the Canada Cup Wednesday and be without Altidore, Bradley and Cooper. #USARoadtoRussia And Giovinco could still be out with injury.

Defenders: Medranda is dropping currently at 28%.  Opara Smith and Jungwirth are all under 18%.

Callens NYC DGW $4.7 – Here’s my plug covering Johnson as well. New York City is at home for both games. They’ll be missing defender Matarrita and Wallace from mid, but don’t let that worry you. City will still be excited to be home after four consecutive away games.

Wingert RSL DGW $4.1 – Real is full of cheap defenders, and they’re playing two games this week. Salt Lake conceded only two goals in their last three games. Look for a potential clean sheet in their second game against Dallas. Dallas only has two goals from their last four games. The only downside with RSL is that both games are in the road.

Thiesson MIN $5 – Minnesota is traveling to Kansas City this week. SKC have been shutout three times in their last five games. Three of Minnesotas last six games ended as clean sheets.

Midfield: Godoy is back below 30% at 25%, he does have a hip injury. Acosta, Lodeiro and Valeri are all 19%.

Trapp CLB DGW $7.1 – Trapp won’t score as much as Meram or Higuain, but he did play a full 180 mins in Columbus’s last DGW. Seattle will be without defenders Jones and Torres, and Colorado will be without goalkeeper Howard. #SecretaryofDedense

Gressel ATL $4.4 – After playing 6 away games in 7 weeks, Atlanta seems to be revitalized having had their last two games at home. Hopefully they can continue their recent goal scoring, 7 goals in two games, on the road against Vancouver. Gressel has 25 points for the last three weeks.

Harrison NYC DGW $7.9 – Remember during New York Cities last DGW you were trying to decide between Harrison and Wallace? You don’t have to make that decision this week because Wallace is with Costa Rica. In the last DGW Harrison played 116 mins.

Forwards: Villa will probably hit 41% this week. Larin is currently at 20%. With all of Toronto’s missing players as mentioned earlier, $3.9 Edwards would be a good choice to fill some shoes, 23 pts in last 5 weeks in only 196 mins.

Torres HOU DGW $8.6 – Houston can score at home, which their first game is, against RSL who will be without Savarino, Rusnak and Rimando. #USMNT Question is can Houston score on the road? With their second game away at Seattle, it is a good opportunity to do so. Consider Manotas, Quioto and midfielder Alex good picks too.

Jackson-Hamel MTL $5.1 – Montreal has Canada Cup and a home game against New York. Montreal has 11 goals in their last five games. Red Bull’s have allowed 10 goals in their last 5 games. Jackson-Hamel has 4 goals in Montreal’s last 6 games. Or take $3.9 Tabla for your midfield.

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 14.

Eight Teams have DGW. Canadians have Canada Cup play tonight and Wednesday. International Call Ups. Rosters due Wednesday.

Constructive feedback is appreciated.

Economy Corner Week 13

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Price Paid/Points Earned). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that. Dallas on DGW, Impact not playing. Rosters due Thursday. Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal play tonight in the Canada Cup.

Value Play Examples from Week 12 (Week 12 prices)

Goalkeeper: Paying only $4.4 for Lampson CHI DGW who scored 19 compared to paying $5.5 for Melia SKC DGW who scored 16. Lampson earned you a return of 4.3 pts/$, while Melia earned you 2.9 pts/$.

Defender: Paying $4.8 for Vincent CHI DGW who scored 17 pts compared to paying $6.3 for Chanot NYC DGW who scored 9 pts.

Midfielder: Paying $8.1 for Fernandes SKC DGW scored 21 pts compared to paying $11.5 for Lodeiro SEA DGW scored 10 pts. (Almiron also scored 19 pts in a game this week, but Fernandes is cheaper)

Forward: Paying only $6.1 for Solignac CHI DGW who scored 10 pts compared to paying $9.5 for Larin ORL DGW who scored 2 pts.

Recap of Week 12 Suggestions

Big Win: Both Forward and Defender suggestions did fantastic, let us begin with Chicago! Meira and Nikolic were suggested in the Defenders and Forwards sections. With 4 goals and 2 CS for the week you couldn’t go wrong picking players from the Fire. Union also a team you couldn’t pick wrong with, Fabinho was suggested in the Defender  section. Philadelphia produced with 4 goals, 1 CS and only 1 goal allowed. Forwards Torres and Ramirez also produced. For Houston, Torres earned 10 pts. Ramirez earned 7 pts in the Loons single game.

Swing and a Miss: Gonzalez DAL and Zavaleta TOR. They both only scored 2 pts.

The Push: Midfield and Goalkeeper. For a week with 10 teams on DGW, Midfield was average for the week. Granted Medunjanin scored 13, enough to be the 10th highest midfielder for the week. Lodeiro scored 10 tied for 15, but Harrison & Wallace scored 7/8pts placing them both outside the top 20.

Johnson NYC had a good score of 11 pts, enough to place as 7th goalkeeper overall for the week, but Gonzalez produced an unfortunate 2pts.

Biggest Regret: Not suggesting Atlanta at home against Houston.

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Blake, Jungwirth, Lodeiro or Villa; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Blake, Jungwirth, Lodeiro and Villa all into you starting XI.

Week 13 Value Suggestions

Montreal is NOT playing, Dallas has DGW, Rosters are due Thursday. Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal play tonight in the Canada Cup.

Goalkeepers: Both Melia and Cropper start the week selected by 25% of teams.

Ousted VAN $5.4 – Vancouver is hosting D.C. United, a team that has gone three straight games with out scoring. Even worst is that all three games were at home. Their scoreless streak is bound to end, I just don’t think it’ll be this week on the road.

Gonzalez DAL $4.8 – Dissapointed last week with only 2 pts, but it’s a new week and Dallas has a double game week. Don’t expect anything against hot streak Chicago Fire, it’s Dallas’ second game that’s worth looking at: a home game against Houston. Houston has only scored 1 goal in their last 4 away games. Even after last week, of all goalkeepers, Gonzalez still has the 3rd highest points per game: 5.8.

Defenders: Currently Medranda is sitting at 30% selected. Opara and Jungwirth are both over 18%.

Fabinho PHI $5.1 – Even after 4 straight wins including 3 CS, Fabinho is the only Union defender who costs over $5. Rosenberry is the only defender selected by at least 10% of teams and he hasn’t played a full 90 since week 7. Union is against RSL. Salt Lake did score 2 goals last week against NYC, but the Pigeons were sitting players in preparation to beat Orlando. Those are the only goals RSL have scored in their last 5 games.

Long/Lawrence NY $5.4/$5.5 – New York is at home again after a 1-1 draw against Toronto. This will be Red Bull’s third game in a row at home and they could really use a win to turn around a 4 game winless streak. The Revs come in having scored 11 goals in their last five games. The kicker is that they’ve only scored 5 goals in their last five away games, a streak that includes 2 shut outs. And New England may be without Agudelo.

Parker VAN $5.1 – Unless you’re willing to bet the barn that Vancouver gets the clean sheet, only consider Parker from their defense. He is both cheaper & has scored more points than Waston. The Whitecaps do have 2 CS in their last three games.

Midfield: Godoy is still above 30%. Lodeiro and Valeri are both above 18% selected… Don’t you forget about Medunjanin, he’s now the 5th highest scoring midfielder, more than Godoy and Valeri.

Svensson SEA $6.0 – Cascadia Clash Part 1: The Emrald City is hosting the boys from the City of Roses this weekend. This could be the game Seattle needs to correct their scoring problems. Portland has allowed opposing teams to score 13 goals in their last five away games, 9 goals in the last three away games. Svensson has scored 35 pts in the Sounders last 6 games.

Guzman POR $7.7 – Cascadia Clash Part 2: Or it could be Portlands opportunity to end their 4 game winless streak. In Seattle’s last five games, three different opponents scored 3+ goals against them. Guzman has scored 29 pts in the last five games for the Timbers, back in week 3 he scored 14 points against Houston.

Acosta DAL $7.2 DGW – Also consider Urruti at the Forward position. Last week was Dallas’s first shut out since week 2 against SKC. With two games this week, Acosta and Urruti are bound to score at least once.

Forwards: Villa is selected by 37% and Larin is at 21%.

Accam CHI $9.8 – Chicago have scored 13 goals in their last 5 home games, and they’re home again this week. While Nikolic is the hot choice, selected by 17%, Accam finished their double game week only 1 point less. Accam is still under $10 and only selected by 2%. Only 14 points separate their total scores, and that’s largely due to Nikolic’s 20 point game in week 11.

Blessing SKC $7.6 – If Dwyer misses the game this week look to Blessing to fill the spot. Also consider midfielders Feilhaber and Fernandes against the Rapids. Colorado has a -4 goal differential from their last five games.

Wondolowski SJ $8.6 – After San Jose’s first DGW in week 8, Wondo still played 77 mins in their week 9 game and scored 6 points. This week the Earthquakes host LA. While San Jose doesn’t score more than a goal very often, Galaxy have only held one CS, a 0-0 draw against Philadelphia.

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 13.

Dallas on DGW, Impact not playing. Rosters due Thursdayy. Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal play tonight in the Canada Cup.

Economy Corner Week 12

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Price Paid/Points Earned). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that. Ten Teams on DGW, Rosters due Wednesday.

Would love to hear which Economy Corner suggestions you’ve actually used in your starting XI. Please share Player Name, Week Used, and if it was a good or dreadful choice.

Value Play Examples from Week 11 (Week 11 prices) –
Goalkeeper: Paying only $4 for Cropper NE who scored 9 pts compared to paying $5.7 for Melia SKC who scored 1 pt.
Defender: Paying only $4.4 for Onyewu PHI who scored 14 pts compared to paying $7.1 for Hedges DAL who scored 4 pts.
Midfielder: Paying only $8 for Medunjanin PHI who scored a whopping 19 pts compared to paying $10.1 for Kaka ORL who scored 7 pts.
Forward: Paying only $3.7 for Edwards TOR DGW who scored 14 pts compared to paying $10.3 for O. Kamara CLB DGW who scored 6 pts.

Recap of Week 11 Suggestions

Big Win: Meram, Cropper and Onyewu were Value Suggestions last week. While Edwards wasn’t an official Value Suggestion, he was mentioned in the Forwards header. If you had played all four you would have scored 60 points for the low cost of $22.

Swing and a Miss: The two defenders that don’t play for Philadelphia; Sarkodie SJ and Hernandez TOR only earned 1 point each.

The Push: My Houston obsession last week. While goalkeeper Willis only scored 2 points, both Alex and Quioto scored 5 pts. While not as good as many other players, thanks to 7 teams scoring three or more goals in a game this week, it is only a point less than what Altidore and Giovinco scored for the week.
Biggest Regret: Not suggesting Medunjanin.

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Robles, Morrow, Valeri or Villa; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Robles, Morrow, Valeri and Villa all into you starting XI.

Week 12 Value Suggestions, Ten teams have DGW, Rosters are due Wednesday.

Goalkeepers:  With ten teams with DGW schedules there is a lot of tough decisions to make. Melia is currently selected by 22% of teams, with SKC playing two games I expect that to increase.

Johnson NYC $5.7 DGW – New York City’s two games are opposite ends of the spectrum. First game is against 2 win RSL. Second game is against 6 win Orlando. Both games are on the road. Real has only scored once in their last four games. Orlando has scored two goals in each their last three home games.

Gonzalez DAL $4.9 – Dallas plays San Jose this week at home. San Jose has been scoreless in their last three road games. This game will be San Jose’s second of two for the week. In 7 games Gonzalez has 4 clean sheets, enough to be tied for second for CS this season.

Defenders: Currently Medranda is sitting at 30% selected. No other defender is over 18%.

Fabinho PHI $4.9 DGW – Union is playing both of their games at home. First is against Houston. This game is not as scary as you think. Houston has had an easy life playing 7 of their first 10 games at home. They lost all three away games, getting shut out in two of them. Second game for Philadelphia is against Colorado. Colorado finally halted a 7 game winless skid. Even with their 3 goals against San Jose last week they’re still averaging less than 1 goal a game. This will be Colorado’s second away game for the week.

Meira CHI $5.6 DGW – Chicago should have a good week as well with a home game against Colorado and an away game in DC. In their five home games this season the Fire only allowed 3 goals, earning 3 clean sheets. DC were held scoreless in their last two home games by Impact and Union.

Zavaleta TOR $5.0 – I know Zavaleta is selected by 17% of teams, I think he’s the best choice from teams with only one game this week. Toronto faces a New York team that can’t find consistency. After going on a three game win streak scoring 2 goals in each game, the Red Bulls are now on a three game losing streak having scored only 1 goal in those three games. In their first 12 games Toronto has five CS.

Midfielders: Godoy is still sitting at 30% selection.

Harrison/Wallace NYC $7.9/$7.7 DGW – With games against Salt Lake who allowed 13 goals in the last four games, and Orlando who allowed 8 goals in the last three games, it is a prime week to pick these two. Harrison has 4 goals and 2 assists, scoring 8 points in weeks 5 and 7, and 14 points in week 9. Wallace has 3 goals and 3 assists, scoring 11 points in weeks 2 and 3, and 15 points in week 10. The only problem is deciding who to choose. At their prices you might as well get both.

Lodeiro SEA $11.5 DGW – Yeah that’s right, I’m suggesting Lodeiro as a value play this week. Sure Seattle’s first game is a scary away game against Sporting KC, but their second game is a juicy home game against RSL. Regardless of the score line Lodeiro has yet to score less than 5 points in a game, that is a guaranteed 10 points for the week.

Medunjanin PHI $8.2 DGW – Even after last weeks performance, He is only selected by 7% of teams. He is the second highest scoring Midfielder priced under $9. He only scored less than 5 pts twice this season, Union has two games this week, and he has played all 90 minutes in every game.

Forwards: The highest selected forwards are Villa, Giovinco, and Larin, all above 20%. I suspect Larin will see an increase.

Nikolic CHI $9.9 DGW – After struggling on the road the previous three weeks Chicago came home and torched Seattle 4-1. With a home game to start their double game week, picking either of Chicago’s forwards or even midfielders would be a smart choice. Accam, McCarty and Schweinsteiger are all under $10 too.

Torres HOU $8.6 DGW – Torres returned last week from concussion protocol playing 60 mins and scoring 8 points. While Houston has been great at home, they have yet to translate the success on the road. Both games are away in Philadelphia and Atlanta. I would only choose one Houston player this week.

Ramirez MIN $7.8 – The Loons have scored 7 goals from their last five games. They are home this week against the Galaxy. Over LA’s last five games teams have scored 8 goals. Ramirez is a good

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 12.

Economy Corner Week 11

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Price Paid/Points Earned). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that. Two Teams on DGW, Rosters due Wednesday.

Would love to here which Economy Corner suggestions you’ve actually used in your starting XI. Please share Player Name, Week Used, and if it was a good or dreadful choice.

Value Play Examples from Week 10 (Week 10 price) –
Goalkeeper: Paying $4.8 for Gonzalez DAL or $4.7 for Steffen CLB, they earned 10 and 11 pts this week. Compare that to paying $6.1 for Robles NY who had a DGW and only earned 7 pts.
Defender: Jungwirth SJ scored 18 pts, his price was $5.9, so he earned +3pts/$.
Midfielder: Paying only $3.8 for Tabla MTL who scored 8 pts compared to paying $10 for Kaka ORL who scored 9 pts.
Forward: Did you pay $12.3 for Giovinco TOR who scored 14 pts (not that I can argue against the choice, He did have a DGW) while passing on Sapong PHI, Manotas HOU, and Wondolowski SJ (and I passed on all three too)? Sapong $7.8 scored 18 pts, Manotas $7.6 scored 16 pts, and Wondo $8.4 scored 16 pts.

Recap of Week 10 Suggestions

Big Win: Two of the three goalkeeper suggestions had clean sheets for the week – Gonzalez DAL and Ousted VAN. Robles scored 7 pts as well, but with 10 clean sheets this week, 7 pts isn’t something to cheer about considering Robles had a DGW.

Swing and a Miss: New York did not do as great as expected. New York had the not so surprising 0-2 loss against SKC. Then they were surprisingly crushed 0-3 by Sapong’s hat trick in Philly!

The Push: Forwards overall were average. Dwyer did score a whopping 13 points for the week and Edwards hit 7 points, but Bruin only managed 2 pts as Toronto held Seattle scoreless in the Championship rematch.

Biggest Regret: Giving Acosta and DC United a little love last week.

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Robles, Hedges, Feilhaber or Giovinco; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Robles, Hedges, Feilhaber and Giovinco all into you starting XI.

Week 11 Value Suggestions, Columbus and Toronto have DGW, Rosters are due Wednesday.

Goalkeepers:  We’ve got two of the top goalkeepers against each other this week as Orlando hosts Kansas City. While I wouldn’t be surprised by one or both teams keeping a clean sheet, I think there are a few other options with better chances.

Cropper NE $4 – The Revs are at home this week against Real. Salt Lake have only one goal in their last three games. Granted Salt Lake played SKC and Dallas the last two weeks, but that doesn’t explain the 3 other games they’ve been held scoreless this season. Monday morning 25.8% of you already had him, but I have a hard time believing the majority of you have him selected to be your starting Goalkeeper.

Willis HOU $5.1 – Houston Part 1: Houston is home against Vancouver. In the last three weeks Houston earned clean sheets against Orlando and San Jose, granted it was the second game of a DGW for both Orlando and San Jose.

Defenders: Medranda, Opara, Long, and Zavaleta are all currently selected by at least 20% of fantasy teams. I’ll probably have Medranda on my team, but I’ll be considering other options to round out my defense. Quick question: How is Jungwirth only selected by 7% of teams?

Sarkodie SJ $4.6 – Nick Lima only played 10 mins in San Jose’s last two games. Enter Kofi Sarkodie who seams to have replaced him in equal parts price and points. If you have a Lima sighting let me know.

Hernandez TOR $4.5 DGW – With back-to-back Double Game Weeks, you can expect continued rotations for Toronto. Hernandez played a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 away win against Seattle.

Gaddis PHI $4.5 – You can also add Elliot, Onyewu and Fabinho here, all under $5. Philadelphia has two clean sheets in a row, and they could go for a third. They’re on the road against a DC United team that was shutout for the 5th time in 9 games.

Midfielders: I don’t want to be to conceited and think I had anything to do with it, it’s probably just because they had a Double Game Week, but when I suggested Toronto’s Vazquez in Week 8 he was owned by 0.9% of teams, now he’s owned by 12%. He’s currently owned by more teams than Bradley…

Tabla MTL $3.9 – Tabla had gone quit since his goal in week 5. He found the back of the net again this last week. He has started in the last two games for Montreal. It’s time to put him back on your radar. This week Montreal is hosting Columbus, which will be Crew’s second of two games for the week.

Alex HOU $7.8 – Houston Part 2: Oh man, did you see the rampage Houston went on against Orlando? Sure you can say it was Orlando’s second of two games for the week and that Spector didn’t play. Well Houston still scored 4 goals, even with Cubo out due to concussion protocol. Alex scored 11 points in that game.

Meram CLB $9.9 DGW – I’m surprised Meram is still under $10. Of all Midfielders, he is second in goals scored (4) and tied for third in assists (4). With a DGW, he should get enough opportunities to add to his tally.

Forwards I just want to apologies for my over obsessiveness of Houston this week. Don’t forget about $3.9 Edwards TOR for your team.

Quioto HOU $8.8 – Houston Part 3: Quioto finally eclipsed the 45 min mark for the first time since his week 4 injury in Honduras’s Hex game against USA. Last week Manotas, Quioto, and Elis all scored 9+ points against Orlando (all under $8.8). This week Houston is against Vancouver. Vancouver has allowed 14 goals in 9 games, 5 of their opponents have scored 2 or more. Manotas is probably the riskiest choice if Torres is cleared from concussion protocol. If Torres is cleared, this could be the first game Torres and Quioto both play a full 90 since Quioto’s injury.

Sapong PHI $8.0 – Thanks to Sapong’s hat trick against New York, He is now the third highest scoring forward in fantasy. Against DC, I would not be surprised if he scores again. United hasn’t held a clean sheet since week 1 in a 0-0 draw vs Kansas City.

Urruti DAL $9.0 – Dallas has only played 8 games, Urruti has 6 goals and 1 assist. They’re hosting New York City who have allowed 7 goals in their last 5 games.

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 11.
