Economy Corner Week 11

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Price Paid/Points Earned). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that. Two Teams on DGW, Rosters due Wednesday.

Would love to here which Economy Corner suggestions you’ve actually used in your starting XI. Please share Player Name, Week Used, and if it was a good or dreadful choice.

Value Play Examples from Week 10 (Week 10 price) –
Goalkeeper: Paying $4.8 for Gonzalez DAL or $4.7 for Steffen CLB, they earned 10 and 11 pts this week. Compare that to paying $6.1 for Robles NY who had a DGW and only earned 7 pts.
Defender: Jungwirth SJ scored 18 pts, his price was $5.9, so he earned +3pts/$.
Midfielder: Paying only $3.8 for Tabla MTL who scored 8 pts compared to paying $10 for Kaka ORL who scored 9 pts.
Forward: Did you pay $12.3 for Giovinco TOR who scored 14 pts (not that I can argue against the choice, He did have a DGW) while passing on Sapong PHI, Manotas HOU, and Wondolowski SJ (and I passed on all three too)? Sapong $7.8 scored 18 pts, Manotas $7.6 scored 16 pts, and Wondo $8.4 scored 16 pts.

Recap of Week 10 Suggestions

Big Win: Two of the three goalkeeper suggestions had clean sheets for the week – Gonzalez DAL and Ousted VAN. Robles scored 7 pts as well, but with 10 clean sheets this week, 7 pts isn’t something to cheer about considering Robles had a DGW.

Swing and a Miss: New York did not do as great as expected. New York had the not so surprising 0-2 loss against SKC. Then they were surprisingly crushed 0-3 by Sapong’s hat trick in Philly!

The Push: Forwards overall were average. Dwyer did score a whopping 13 points for the week and Edwards hit 7 points, but Bruin only managed 2 pts as Toronto held Seattle scoreless in the Championship rematch.

Biggest Regret: Giving Acosta and DC United a little love last week.

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Robles, Hedges, Feilhaber or Giovinco; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Robles, Hedges, Feilhaber and Giovinco all into you starting XI.

Week 11 Value Suggestions, Columbus and Toronto have DGW, Rosters are due Wednesday.

Goalkeepers:  We’ve got two of the top goalkeepers against each other this week as Orlando hosts Kansas City. While I wouldn’t be surprised by one or both teams keeping a clean sheet, I think there are a few other options with better chances.

Cropper NE $4 – The Revs are at home this week against Real. Salt Lake have only one goal in their last three games. Granted Salt Lake played SKC and Dallas the last two weeks, but that doesn’t explain the 3 other games they’ve been held scoreless this season. Monday morning 25.8% of you already had him, but I have a hard time believing the majority of you have him selected to be your starting Goalkeeper.

Willis HOU $5.1 – Houston Part 1: Houston is home against Vancouver. In the last three weeks Houston earned clean sheets against Orlando and San Jose, granted it was the second game of a DGW for both Orlando and San Jose.

Defenders: Medranda, Opara, Long, and Zavaleta are all currently selected by at least 20% of fantasy teams. I’ll probably have Medranda on my team, but I’ll be considering other options to round out my defense. Quick question: How is Jungwirth only selected by 7% of teams?

Sarkodie SJ $4.6 – Nick Lima only played 10 mins in San Jose’s last two games. Enter Kofi Sarkodie who seams to have replaced him in equal parts price and points. If you have a Lima sighting let me know.

Hernandez TOR $4.5 DGW – With back-to-back Double Game Weeks, you can expect continued rotations for Toronto. Hernandez played a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 away win against Seattle.

Gaddis PHI $4.5 – You can also add Elliot, Onyewu and Fabinho here, all under $5. Philadelphia has two clean sheets in a row, and they could go for a third. They’re on the road against a DC United team that was shutout for the 5th time in 9 games.

Midfielders: I don’t want to be to conceited and think I had anything to do with it, it’s probably just because they had a Double Game Week, but when I suggested Toronto’s Vazquez in Week 8 he was owned by 0.9% of teams, now he’s owned by 12%. He’s currently owned by more teams than Bradley…

Tabla MTL $3.9 – Tabla had gone quit since his goal in week 5. He found the back of the net again this last week. He has started in the last two games for Montreal. It’s time to put him back on your radar. This week Montreal is hosting Columbus, which will be Crew’s second of two games for the week.

Alex HOU $7.8 – Houston Part 2: Oh man, did you see the rampage Houston went on against Orlando? Sure you can say it was Orlando’s second of two games for the week and that Spector didn’t play. Well Houston still scored 4 goals, even with Cubo out due to concussion protocol. Alex scored 11 points in that game.

Meram CLB $9.9 DGW – I’m surprised Meram is still under $10. Of all Midfielders, he is second in goals scored (4) and tied for third in assists (4). With a DGW, he should get enough opportunities to add to his tally.

Forwards I just want to apologies for my over obsessiveness of Houston this week. Don’t forget about $3.9 Edwards TOR for your team.

Quioto HOU $8.8 – Houston Part 3: Quioto finally eclipsed the 45 min mark for the first time since his week 4 injury in Honduras’s Hex game against USA. Last week Manotas, Quioto, and Elis all scored 9+ points against Orlando (all under $8.8). This week Houston is against Vancouver. Vancouver has allowed 14 goals in 9 games, 5 of their opponents have scored 2 or more. Manotas is probably the riskiest choice if Torres is cleared from concussion protocol. If Torres is cleared, this could be the first game Torres and Quioto both play a full 90 since Quioto’s injury.

Sapong PHI $8.0 – Thanks to Sapong’s hat trick against New York, He is now the third highest scoring forward in fantasy. Against DC, I would not be surprised if he scores again. United hasn’t held a clean sheet since week 1 in a 0-0 draw vs Kansas City.

Urruti DAL $9.0 – Dallas has only played 8 games, Urruti has 6 goals and 1 assist. They’re hosting New York City who have allowed 7 goals in their last 5 games.

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 11.

Would love to here which suggestions you’ve actually used in your starting XI. Please share Player Name, Week Used, and if it was a good or dreadful choice.
