Economy Corner Week 10

Welcome to the weekly Economy Corner where I suggest the Best Bang for the Buck options at each position (Price Paid/Points Earned). Most of us probably won’t crack the top 100 in the Global Overall league. In fact, I’d be happy to just hit the top 1,000. However, we all have the capability to achieve #1 in our private leagues against our friends, coworkers, and fellow club supporters. I am here to help you achieve that. Four Teams on DGW, Rosters due Wednesday.

Would love to here which Economy Corner suggestions you’ve actually used in your starting XI. Please share Player Name, Week Used, and if it was a good or dreadful choice.

Value Play Examples from Week 9 (Week 9 price) –
Goalkeeper: Paying only $4.7 for Bono TOR who scored 10 pts compared to paying $6.1 for Robles NY who only scored 4 pts.
Defender: Paying only $4.7 for Fabinho PHI who scored 10 pts compared to paying $6.8 for Zimmerman DAL who scored 1 pt
Midfielder: Paying $11.3 for Lodeiro SEA who scored 14 pts or paying only $7.7 for Harrison NYC who also scored 14 pts.
Forward: Paying $12.2 for Giovinco TOR who scored 8 pts or paying only $3.8 for Edwards TOR who also scored 8 pts.

Recap of Week 9 Suggestions
Big Win: Jones SEA scored a full 12 points in a 3-3 draw against New England. With Orlando’s clean sheet, Bendik tied for second highest scoring goalkeeper this round.

Swing and a Miss: Only four suggestions last week scored 4 points or more: aforementioned Bendik and Jones, and Kann and Vazquez. Not a good week for Economy Corner.

The Push: Kann ATL earned 4 points in a 0-3 loss, still tied for eight highest goalkeeper. Even as San Jose only scored once against Minnesota, Burch only tallied 3 points, his teammate Calvo scored 6 thanks to 4 defending bonus points.

Biggest Regret: I really did have Harrison in my initial week 9 team on Monday, he was replaced later in the week…

*Weekly disclaimer: I’m not saying these choices will perform better than high priced Robles, Besler, Kaka or Giovinco; these are simply value plays so that you can still squeeze Robles, Besler, Kaka and Giovinco all into you starting XI.

Week 10 Value Suggestions, Four Teams have DGW, Rosters are due Wednesday.
The four teams playing DGW are New York, Orlando, Kansas City, and Toronto. The one DGW team I am leaning away from is Orlando. They have two road games against Toronto and Houston, two teams that have good attack and good defense.

Goalkeepers: Currently the highest selected goalkeepers are Cropper, Melia, Diop and Bendik. Melia is my top choice this week as SKC is on the DGW docket. Here are three I would consider before Diop, Bendik and Cropper this week.

Robles NY $6.1 DGW – Both of New York games this week are on the road against Kansas City and Philadelphia. Robles currently second with most clean sheets (4). Both games are possible chances for a clean sheet.

Ousted VAN $5.2 – Vancouver is against Colorado this week. It has been three weeks since the Rapids last scored.

Gonzalez DAL $4.8 – Gonzalez is averaging 6 points per game, third highest goalkeeper. Playing against Salt Lake, Dallas will be a favorite for a clean sheet this week.

Defenders: Medranda, Lima, Long, Zavaleta and now Jones are on everyone’s radar, they are all selected by at least 15% of fantasy teams. It’d be really easy to just pick three of them to list here as they’re all under $5.5, and three of them have DGW. However I don’t want to insult you, so here are a few differential options.

Figueroa DAL $5.6 – I like Dallas for a clean sheet this week against RSL. However, I don’t want to pay $6.7+ for Zimmerman or Hedges. Figueroa has a ownership of less than 3%.

Lawrence NY $5.5 DGW – Long has a 23% selection compared to Lawrence’s 4% selection. Lawrence is only 1 point behind Long and only $0.1 more. Can you suggest a less selected differential choice who properties are almost identical to the popular pick?

Midfielders: After last weeks 3 pt performance, and with 4 teams with DGW, I really don’t have a good argument for Medunjanin. That said I wouldn’t be shocked if he bounces back with a 7 point performance.

Muyl/Royer $6.6/7.5 DGW – This will be the first week I will actually be considering Kljestan for my line up. Maybe he’ll get his first goal this week. For cheaper options consider Muyl and Royer, they have both scored 2 goals this season. This first game is against the tough SKC defense, the second is against ‘I don’t know what we’re doing’ Philadelphia.

Acosta DC $8.9 – After starting the season with three scoreless games, United now has 9 goals in 5 games. This week they host Montreal who are tied for second for most goals allowed. Impact have allowed 10 goals in their last 5 games. If you want an even cheaper option look at Le Toux who costs only $6.5.

Dwyer SKC $8.9 DGW – Kansas City has scored 7 in their last four games. They do have a tough game against the Red Bulls, but with two games this week I’m willing to bet Dwyer gets a goal.

Edwards TOR $3.9 DGW – While everyone else hits up Altidore and Giovinco, get yourself Edwards. You’ll save lots of money to beef up your midfield and defense. Edwards has 81+ minutes in each of Toronto’s last three games, so he’ll definitely be on the field in both games this week. This last round he earned just as many points as Giovinco. You’re gonna feel like you cheated the system after he gets you over 10 points for the week.

Bruin SEA $7.0 – In the last three games Bruin has played 203 minutes, has two goals (3 for the season) and he has out scored Dempsey and Morris in fantasy two of those games.

That’s XI value plays for you to consider for Week 9.
